Practical hints
There is a number of things a user as a minimum should be aware of when using FrigoSim:
- The program will not simulate unless the plant specification is complete.
An incomplete specification is indicated first of all by disabled (greyed) menu commands
and tool buttons, except .
A single component that is not fully specified, is painted in black, if Preferences dialogue Deficiencies indicated box is checked.
A circuit that has an error in the mass balance conditions, is similarly indicated by black connectors
if these are set to be visible ().
See more on this in Black elements.
The menu command activates display of the system of heat flow balance equations,
the systems of mass flow balance equations (one per circuit) and the system of variables in the connectors.
The colours are cyan for temperatures, green for pressures, yellow for enthalpies, red for mass flow rates,
light grey for fractions (both refrigerant vapour fractions and humid air absolute humidity) and finally
dark grey for powers.
- Before doing any calculations, turn on .
Most components will display a circle, whose area is proportional to the capacity.
If the capacity is to small to show, the circle is replaced by a standard-sized cross.
There should normally be no such crosses.
- At the first attempt to calculate a newly specified plant, use .
If there are unfortunate details in the specification, these often show in the solution
of this first iteration, while a second iteration can be impossible to achieve.
The menu commands and should be turned off first.
- When a simulation has ended, the results can be inspected through and
. These two menu commands open the result and report files, respectively.
The result file is a clean numerical file, apart from the first line, appropriate for use by spreadsheet programs,
while the report file is for textual presentation of results, in addition to the optional display of details
from the solution process, ref. menu command .
- If after having performed a simulation, you would like to change the plant and simulate again,
it is necessary to do a prior to the changes.
After having done a number of changes, if you then start a new simulation
without saving the changes first (by ),
you will be prompted to do so. Answer Yes (normally) to this request.
